Phoenix Firearms Instruction, LLC

Empowering Women through
Firearms Training

Our vision is to passionately teach women, regardless of diversity or adversity, to safely and accurately shoot firearms in a caring, non-judgmental, fun environment.

Phoenix Firearms Instruction, LLC is an organization created for women shooters by women shooters. We know that one style of teaching does not work for all students. We know that many firearm products were made with the average male physiology in mind. It is our goal to be able teach women to safely shoot at their skill level with the equipment available to them.

Because we have been there before, we understand the emotions around shooting a gun for the first time and it is okay to be exhilarated or petrified taking your first shot. We provide ladies the confidence and safe environment they need to handle a gun, shoot a gun and improve their accuracy.

Our logo, the phoenix, represents renewal and transformation. Just like a phoenix is reborn from their ashes, sometimes a women needs to re-form their ideas of self-defense based on their individual lifestyles. We can help them through this process to find the best means for her to protect herself and her family.

Sandra Kozero,
Instructor

Like many women, Sandy grew up with guns in the house, but was never taught to safely use them. Then in 1995, with the introduction of the concealed handgun laws in Texas, she found herself with a baby, a license to carry, a snub-nosed revolver and no practical experience. Through years of trial and error and the support of the Shooting Sisterhood, Sandy now has a passion for teaching other women the joys of shooting.

Sandy considers herself blessed to be able to call Tatiana Whitlock and Kathy Jackson her mentors and has taken courses from the best instructors in the nation, including Karl Rehn, Massad Ayoob and Tom Givens. She has over 600 hours of personal training with nearly half of the time in classes specifically geared towards instructors.

Sandy is one of the first women in the nation to be certified as an A Girl and A Gun Certified Instructor and teaches their Women’s Introduction to Handgun. She is a Level 2 instructor for the Complete Combatant’s Image Based Decisional Drills. She is certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety to teach state’s License to Carry (LTC) course. SABRE has certified her to teach their pepper spray courses, including the Civilian Safety Awareness Program and the College Safety Program. She is also an NRA certified pistol and rifle instructor, along with being an NRA Level 1 Shotgun Coach. She teaches NRA’s Basic Pistol, Basic Rifle, Basic Range Safety Officer, Home Firearm Safety, Personal Protection in the Home, Refuse to Be a Victim and the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program.

Sandy is the San Antonio Chapter Facilitator for AG & AG and has served on their Board of Directors as Leadership Onboarding Director on a national level recruiting new facilitators for the organization. Sandy has been shooting with the San Antonio Chapter of A Girl & A Gun as a founding member since 2011. She also dabbles in competitive shooting and holds a pink belt with Gracie Jiu Jitsu Women Empowered Program.

When she is not shooting, Sandy works full-time as a paralegal. She is the mother of three children and calls San Antonio home after being a resident for more than 25 years. She prides herself in being a lifelong learner.
